Plenty Unlimited
Plenty Unlimited is a musical about genetic modification and was produced at a time when the genetics of food was dominating
the news media. It takes place in a city of giant marketing schemes, where all things are scientifically possible, including
parakeet bunnies, lavender potatoes, and fishikins, which cook like fish and taste like chicken. Joan, the heroine of the
tale, wishes for a de-Cat - a kitten that does not claw, meow, or shed. Plenty Unlimited can create such a thing, and does.
A perfect plot - until an inherent flaw manifests itself. The show explores the farthest limits of what could be done with
genetic modification - a satiric commentary and exploration.
Written by Ottawa translator Michael Larrass, music by Timothy Piper, and directed by Lisa Zanyk, Plenty Unltd. opened in December 2003 at Ottawa's Great Canadian Theatre Company.
